Gladys Laura Moore was born on September 12, 1908, at her parents ranch house on Grizzly Gulch, near the rural town of Woody, in Kern County, California. Gladys was the seventh of the eight children of George Henry Moore and Laura Zania "Frazier" Moore. Gladys' seven siblings were: Henry George (born 1890), Dell Dewy (born 1894), John Shelley (born 1886), Charles Joseph (born 1901), Violet Pearl (born 1903), Byron Ray (born 1905), and Ila Mae (born 1910).
Ila married Robert Elmo Newman (commonly known as "Buck") in a unknown location on August 20, 1930. They had one child: Danzel Mae Newman (born 1933).
Gladys was eighty-three year old when she passed away at Mercy Hospital in Bakersfield on July 9, 1992. She is buried next to Buck, her husband of sixty-one years, in the Blue Mountain Cemetery in Woody.
