Charles Pinkard Johnson was born in Virginia on March 26, 1835. He was the son of Josiah Johnson and Hannah Charity DeHart. He married Julina Ann Johnson on March 1, 1866, in Lafayette County, Missouri, over two years after the death of her first husband Nathan Washington Moore. Charles and Julina were married for fifty-seven years and had six children: Mary Elizabeth Johnson, Josiah Steven Johnson, Samuel Nathan Johnson, Noah W Johnson, Lillian A Johnson & Eva Johnson.
Charles also fathered four children with Julina's daughter, Eliza Jane Moore: Dell Washington Johnson, David Sidney Johnson, Kitty Ethelena Johnson & Elsie Hannah Johnson. Charles and Eliza were never married.
Charles died on November 15, 1923 of chronic nephritis (kidney failure) at his home in Saticoy. Charles was eight-eight at the the time of his death and had lived in Ventura County for the past forty-seven years. He is buried next to his wife Julina Ann Johnson at the Ivy Lawn Memorial Park in Ventura.
